Questions
Do I need to register this tenancy agreement?
Leases longer than two years generally need to be registered. Short residential tenancies normally do not, though stamping the agreement may still be advisable.
Can rent be paid by M-Pesa?
Yes. You can name an M-Pesa Paybill or Till number, a bank account, or cash against a receipt.
Can the landlord lock me out for unpaid rent?
No. Self-help evictions are unlawful. This agreement requires the landlord to use lawful process.
How much deposit is normal?
One to two months' rent is common. The agreement sets a deadline for the refund and requires a written breakdown of any deductions.
