Questions
When should the NTSA transfer happen?
Usually once the full price is paid. The seller starts the transfer on the NTSA eCitizen portal and the buyer accepts it, after which a new logbook is issued in the buyer's name.
How do I check that the car has no loan on it?
Run an official vehicle search on the NTSA eCitizen portal before paying. A financier on the logbook means the loan must be cleared first.
Who is liable for an accident or traffic offence?
This agreement records the date and time of handover. The seller is responsible for anything before then and the buyer for anything after.
Can the buyer pay in instalments?
Yes. Switch on the deposit and balance clause and set the due date. The logbook transfer happens only after the balance is paid.
